CHANDON CALIFORNIA

As a leader on the US market, Chandon California has been producing high-end sparkling wines in the heart of the Napa Valley for over 40 years. Founded in 1973 by Moët & Chandon, Chandon California was the first wine estate to be established in the United States by a Champagne House. Located in Yountville, deep in the heart of Napa Valley - the signature region for US viticulture - the estate produces sparkling wines made following the “méthode traditionnelle champenoise”.

Three grape varieties are used to produce these wines: Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. The grapes come from vineyards located in Mt Veeder, Yountville and Carneros, regions where vast temperature variations provide perfect conditions for grapes to take on complex flavors. For the blending of each cuvée of sparkling wine, the estate uses more than 60 different wines from the three grape varieties and the fruit comes from 25 vineyards which are spread over Yountville, Mt Veeder and Carneros/those regions.

Designed by ROMA Architects in 1973, the property occupies an area of 4,000m2 in the middle of the vineyards. The building is an elegant combination of wood, copper and stone, inspired by he curved lines of wine tanks. On the cutting edge of sustainable development and farming practices, Chandon California offers a unique wine discovery tour based on how wine is made and tasted, for
the 230,000 visitors who come to the estate each year.

NEWTON VINEYARD

Among the earliest to settle on Spring Mountain in 1977, Newton Vineyard is one of the most prestigious estates in California’s Napa Valley. Internationally renowned for its exceptional terroir, its precise know-how and respect of the environment, the winery received the honor of a dedicated article by famous wine critic Robert M. Parker, Jr. in The World’s Greatest Wine Estates.

Located on the steep slopes of Spring Mountain, the estate, spanning just about 260 hectares, produces wines that are vinified separately then blended together. Each of the 112 parcels is planted with a specific grape variety - Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon or Petit Verdot. These parcels reflect distinct soil types, sun exposures and individual microclimates. The blocks are vinified separately to get the very best from this diversity and provide the winemaker with a rich palette from which to choose when blending Newton Vineyard wines.

The Puzzle, Newton Vineyard’s signature wine results from the careful selection of the best Cabernet Sauvignon grapes from each parcel. It represents the most faithful expression of the Spring Mountain terroir.

Dedicated to working in harmony with nature, the estate intersperses vines with forested land in order to maintain a balance with the natural habitat and preserve a vast array of biodiversity throughout the vineyards.

In 1990, in accordance with its innovative spirit, Newton Vineyard launched the Unfiltered Chardonnay, one of the first unfiltered wines produced and sold within the United States, and which has become an international leader.
